Caterpillar Class Road Safety Week

"On The Way Home" by Jill Murphy

We began the week by listening to the story, "On The Way Home" by Jill Murphy. In the story the main character Claire hurts her knee. On her way home she imaginatively tells her friends lots of different ways that she hurt it. For our writing activities this week we used our imagination to think of a character that we saw on our way home and how we hurt our knee. Here are some of our fantastic ideas: -

At the Writing Area table we all  also wrote a "Get Well" card for Claire.

Road Safety

During Road Safety Week our learning activities were also based on the theme, "What's On The Road" and the aims were -
  • For children to know what a road is, what traffic is and that traffic exists in many forms.
  •       For children to understand that traffic can be dangerous.
  •       For children to know the rules for keeping safe near traffic.
On Friday we put all our Road Safety skills into action by going on a local walk to the Post Box to post our get well cards for Claire.

We were all given a Road Safety Award for crossing the road safely - well done everybody!

Information for parents about how to help keep children safe on the road can be found on the Think! Education website http://think.direct.gov.uk/education/early-years-and-primary/parents/3-to-5s/

Bumble Bee Class week beginning 28.11.16

This week the children will learn, "The Nativity" story and we will begin our preparations for Christmas!

We will begin the week by reading, "The Nativity" story to the children. We will provide opportunities for the children to retell the story through small world play activities and will encourage them to describe settings, characters and events from the story.

We shared the story 'Little Owl and the Star' by Mary Murphy.
The owl follows the star to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus, meeting shepherds, angels and wise men on the way.

The children painted pictures of the people and animals in the Nstivity, and created a beautiful classroom display.

The children have been busy practicing the songs for our Nativity play, 'The Inn Keepers Breakfast'.

Our maths focus this week: -

This week our number focus will be the number 7.

This week the children will also be learning about 2d shape. We will encourage the children to talk about and identify shapes in our environment and use mathematical terms to describe them, for example, the number of sides and corners each shape has.

The children have been busy finding and describing the shapes in nursery.
