Capacity

This week in reception for our maths focus we have been learning about capacity

In practical contexts we have been learning to:

  •  use vocabulary related to capacity - full, half-full, empty.
  • and order objects by capacity.
They are in order - empty, half-full, full.

I've put them in order - full, nearly full, empty

I am filling the bottles up to the top.

I used the jewels to show empty, half-full, full.

We watched this episode of Number Jacks which is all about capacity.

The Gruffalo!

We've had a busy week themed around the story,

"The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson.

We enjoyed playing in our Gruffalo Cave role play area.
Let's toast marshmallows on the campfire!

At our Creation Station we made Gruffalo masks!

Grrrrrrrrr!

Our Literacy Focus was to label the Gruffalo.

At our Funky Fingers table we made Gruffalo crumble!

We also made our own Gruffalo's using play dough and other materials. We photographed on the iPad our finished Gruffalo's.

We ended our week with a reception visit to Thorndon Country Park where we completed the Gruffalo Trail. It was a beautiful sunny autumn day and we enjoyed exploring in the woods.

The sticks we picked up had to be shorter than our arm.

We loved walking through muddy puddles in our wellies!

 We found the Gruffalo!

We made a circle around the Gruffalo and sang the "Gruffaloke1"

Matt our Ranger showed us how animals hibernate and we all covered him with leaves!

Mrs Winter laid on the floor and we moved the leaves from around her so we could make a "Leafallo" of her!

In our groups we then made our own, "Leafallo's"

We spotted Owl high up in his roof top house!

Snake was in his log pile house.

Fox was in his underground house.

We made mud nuts for mouse!

After making mud nuts we left our muddy handprints on the trees!

We finished our day by making music in the woods!

It was a fantastic end to our Gruffalo week in reception and a big thank you to all of the parents who accompanied us on our trip.
