Bumble Bee Class week beginning 10.10.16

This week at Nursery the children will be identifying and talking about signs of Autumn.

We began our week listening to the story, "Autumn Is Here"
We went for an Autumn walk around the school grounds.

These are some of the things we observed:
"Leaves fall down from the trees" Darcy
"Leaves fall down and change colours" David
"The leaves fall off and acorns, so another tree can grow"  Sid
"Apples fall down" Saanvi
"The leaves are green and red" Josef.
(when you touch the leaves) "It makes a cracking noise" Christopher
"They go crunch" Freya

We practised our cutting and sticking skills by making our very own Autumn trees. We held the scissors carefully and used the 'open and shut' motion to cut across the paper. We made sure we put the glue onto the back of what we were sticking.

Thank you to the children and parents who have already bought into Nursery the fabulous Leaf Catchers which you have made at home. They are already brightening up our classroom!

On Thursday we listened to a story called, "Leaf Man". All of the illustrations in the book are made from leaves and other natural objects. The children used their imaginations to create their own representations using autumn objects. Here are some of their fantastic ideas: -

At our Funky Fingers table we used a spoon to pick up conkers and drop them into a bowl.
All of the activities at our Funky Fingers table help us to practise our fine motor skills which will help us to improve our pencil grip and control. For ideas which you can do at home visit the Pinterest website and search "funky fingers preschool activities".

Our Number Focus: -
Each week at Nursery we will have a number focus to help to improve the children's number recognition skills. This weeks focus is the number 1.
On Monday we watched Numtums 1 on CBeebies.
Please encourage your child to find the number 1 in their environment. For example, door numbers, on car registrations, in books which they read, on the television etc.

Every day at Nursery we will now be having a short daily maths focus. This week on the interactive whiteboard we will be introducing a number line from 1 to 10 to the children. We will be encouraging the children to count along the number line with us using number names in order. We will also be introducing "careful counting" skills to the children.

On Friday the children watched, "Numbertime" Number 1 (some parents may remember it from when they were at school!)
