Reception week beginning 12.06.17

This week's focus will be the story,

Mr Gumpy's Out

by John Burningham

Literacy Focus: - The children will be encouraged to identify the characters, setting and events from the story. The children will learn to write in speech bubbles in role as the characters from the story and will also write for a variety of purposes including; list writing and invitations.
Maths Focus: - This week we will continue subtraction activities encouraging the children to use a number line to count back and find an answer and also to identify missing numbers in a subtraction number sentence. We will also be completing further number problem solving activities with the children.

This week in Caterpillar Class:-
We have enjoyed our week's activities based on the story, "Mr Gumpy's Outing". We wrote in role in speech bubbles recording what the characters said in the story.

We enjoyed dressing in role and retelling the story in our role play area.
The chickens flapped!

The cat chased the rabbit.

We made a boat for Mr Gumpy and his friends using different construction materials.

We made moving boat pictures at our Messy Area Table.

We made cakes for Mr Gumpy's tea party.

In our Outside Area we made a boat for Mr Gumpy and his friends.

We had to find out from a collection of objects - which float and which sink. Linked to our homework activity all about materials we were challenged to identify what the objects were made from and whether there was a pattern to our findings.

At the Maths Table we had to make as many number sentences as we could using the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and a + - and = symbol. We found this very challenging and we showed great perseverance when completing this task!

This week in Ladybird Class:

The children have been going into the big playground with Mrs Bartley and Mrs Johnson for morning break and at Lunch time break, with the mid-day supervisors, to get them ready for going into Year 1.

We have also begun our sports day practice by going onto the field and racing on the freshly painted track.
It was great fun running in our colour groups.   We had a balance of the quoits on our head.

Excellent concentration in the egg and spoon practice.

And finally the really fun part, the space hoppers!

All of Ladybird class did an excellent job and – Jacqui is really proud of us and the team spirit we showed too!

We have had a lot of investigation.  Finding out what is magnetic and what objects sink or float.

Look these bits are metal cos they stick to the magnet. - Charlie W.

Look the Numicon sinks, ‘cos it is heavier and has no air in it. - Jacob B.

We’ve also thrown in a little number work.

Oh and some great writing.
