Reception week beginning 08.05.17

This week the children will be developing and recording their own

Beanstalk Adventures!

Literacy Focus: - Following on from last weeks activities based on story elements the children will be developing their own individual beanstalk adventure by connecting their imaginative ideas and the events which till take place.
Maths Focus: - Our maths focus this week will be addition. The children will be encouraged to read a given addition sum and choose an appropriate resource of their choice to answer it and record the total. The children will be extended in these activities by adding numbers to solve number problems.

Our week in Caterpillar Class: -
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our week developing their own beanstalk adventures. To get the children's imaginative and narrative ideas flowing, each day our role play and small world area has been themed around a different story setting for a beanstalk adventure.

I am Prince Charming, I am going to save Darcey.
Let's wiggle our tails, pretend Isobel and Amy are friends and let's dance.
I want to be called Lily the Lion!
We planned and wrote our beanstalk adventures with Sue and Mrs Down. It inspired many of us to write our own stories independently!

Our maths theme this week focussed on addition.
Using apparatus of our choice to answer addition sums.
It is fantastic that we are now able to apply our addition skills to independent tasks at the Maths Area!

We were challenged to solve a number problem.
Using 2 dice - What is the highest total which can be rolled? What is the lowest total which can be rolled? How do you know you have found all of the possible totals?
This activity required lots of persistence which proved a challenge in itself!
2 is the lowest total because you can only roll a 1 and a 1 with 2 dice.

 Our week in Ladybird Class:

We started the week by drawing pictures to support our wonderful imagination and help tell a story that had a beginning, middle and end.  We have enjoyed creating our own stories and sharing them with our friends.

This is where the storm gets really rough and you have to hold on tight to the ship. - Adam

My pictures help me to tell my story. - Emily

I have a giant in my story, but he is a nice giant. - Amelia
This is me and I am on the beach. - Olivia

I have drawn a ladder that goes up to the sky and goes up to a princess palace. We play with the princesses all day and then go home for tea. – Amelie

In mathematics we are focusing on addition.  We know you put the numbers ‘together’ and the answer gets bigger.
Cynthia used working slides on IWB to complete her own addition number sentences independently.

Frankie chooses to record numbers to 12 independently.

Charlie and his friend used the IWB dice roller to generate number sentences and worked out the total putting the 2 dice numbers together.
Chloe W used dots to show her working out for her doubling addition sums.

Ordered in size and colour.

It big, it small –Kye

We also used different art techniques to help creat a growing display that will being going up outside out classroom soon.
You have to blow gently to get big bubbles. - Olivia

I made a bubble print with the blue bubble paint. - Teddy C

We helped to stick different types of material, with different patterns to make a yellow sun.
Plants need warm sun to help them to grow. - Chloe W and Patrycja.

Role play - we are learning to use our voices for others to share in our imagination.
Hello I need to get somone to cut the beanstalk down. - Jacob K.
