Our week in Caterpillar Class: -
On Tuesday we visited Tesco's in Welling for the "Farm To Fork Trail".
We went on a double decker bus - Kaelin
When we arrived at Tesco's we went to a special classroom and put on our own aprons. We then tried a selection of fruit and vegetables and recorded whether we liked them or not.
My favourite thing was trying the foods. If you liked it you ticked it, if you didn't you crossed it - Isla.
We learn about healthy foods. Tomatoes, broccoli and strawberries are healthy for us. I tried purple cabbage. I didn't like it - Ivy.
We tried some carrots and kiwi. The blueberries were very nice - Kaelin.
I tried blueberries and I liked them - Ryan.
We then visited the shop floor and Suzanne our "Farm To Fork Trail" leader asked us to find different fruit and vegetables.
We collected foods and bought them back. We needed to be careful in case we damaged them. We found broccoli, tomatoes, apples and lettuce. These foods are good for you. If you eat bad foods they make you unwell - Scarlett
Next we visited the big warehouse and stepped inside the fridge and freezer!
I liked the big warehouse. I liked the freezer and the fridge with the milk and lots of stuff. The freezer was shivery and chilly - Henry.
We saw the fridge. In it was milk, it has to be cold - Max
We visited the bakery. Sue, Rhehmi and Dikachi had a go at piping the crosses to the hot cross buns!
We went to the bakery and saw the baker putting things in the oven - Darcey
I liked the machine cutting the bread - Betsy.
Finally we visited the fish counter.
I liked seeing the fish man. We put our fingers into the fishes mouth. It felt hard and a little bit soft. We had to wear blue gloves - Bailey.
I touched the fish. I had a long go. I liked to touch it. It's tongue was sticking out - Amy
We touched the fishes golden tongue. It had teeth on the top, it felt tickly - Jennie.
We had a great time at Tesco's and the children were fantastically well behaved. A big thank you to all of the adults who accompanied us on our trip.
Everyday this week we have learnt about different ways to stay healthy.
We learnt when and why we should wash our hands.
You need to wash them because you might get germs on them. When you like going outside playing on the equipment they might be dirty and you'll get germs.
After you have been to the toilet you always have to wash your hands. After you have been stroking your pet you have to wash your hands, because animals give us germs.
You have to always wash your hands because if you spread the germs to all the people you see, they get the germs and they will spread it .
We enjoyed bathing and washing the babies.
I am washing the baby, because she might get germs.
I am washing the baby, getting the dirt off from outside, because he will get germs.
Just
before we left the shop floor, we visited the fish counter.
We learnt about healthy foods and unhealthy foods which we should only eat sometimes.
Rhehmi has made a plate of healthy foods - carrots, peas, apple, coleslaw, cheese and potato.
Apple, pepper, sweetcorn, raisin they are good foods.
It doesn't make you sick it is healthy food that makes you sleep well.
Healthy food is good for you ,so you have to eat it so you don't get diseases.
We learnt about why it is important to clean our teeth to stay healthy.
You need to look after your teeth, by brushing your teeth at night time and morning.
You should always brush your teeth, you should brush them at the back, at the front and at the side. Brush your teeth night and morning.
It's a toothbrush that you brush your teeth with for 3 minutes and it spins around and brushes my teeth.
Brush them so you don't get plaque. You might not want to brush them at night because your tired but you have to keep them clean.
You need 20 teeth, we stuck them on. They are little teeth. You need to eat healthily and brush them.
If you clean your teeth they shine nice and bright ,if you don't clean them they will smell bad. You should have 20 white teeth.
Our week in Ladybird Class:
It been a very active and busy week ending on a high with
our visit to Tesco’s in Welling for the ‘Farm To Fork Trail.’
Something Mrs B spotted in the entrance of Tesco! What a good idea.
When we arrived we met Suzanne, our teaching and learning
guide for the morning’s adventure.
We
headed up to the special classroom and put on our own aprons; ready to
learn. Next, we tried a selection of fruits
and vegetables of various colours and recorded if we liked them, or not.
Olivia
– I don’t like red cabbage (before trying it). Oh, it is sweet and
crunchy. Yes it is ok, I give it a 10.’ Well
done Olivia for trying something new.
Afterwards, we visited the back warehouse and Suzanne showed
us where all the food was stored. It was
chilly, but there was more to come when we got to go through the big fridge and
freezer.
We went to the bakery, where all the staff were very friendly. We all got to have a squeeze of some spare
dough.
'The dough is squishy in my hands.' - Adam.
The baker showed and helped Jacob to make a little round
loaf that they sell in the shop.
Charlie C. made a platted bread.
We got to look at all the machines that they use to help
make the fresh bread on site. It was really
fun seeing the little dough balls come out.
‘They are going to be little rolls when they are cooked.’ –
Iestyn
Suzanne showed us the big stick the bakers use to help them get the bread in and out of the big ovens.
We put on our special blue gloves and could touch the fish and even put our finger inside its mouth.
‘It’s soft and the tongues is silver.’ – Chloe J
We had such a lovely time at Tesco’s and were well looked after
by all the staff members.
A big thank you to all the adults who accompanied us on our
trip and made our woderful trip possible!
At the beginning of the week we were immersed in learning about different ways to stay healthy.
Why and how we should wash our hands.
‘You need to wash your hands, to keep the bugs off after you
have been playing outside and before you eat.’ – Louise
We learnt about healthy foods and unhealthy foods; which we
should only eat sometimes.
Adam sorting foods into healthy and unhealty - sometimes foods.
In PE this week we listened to a BBC School Radio programme
about teeth.
And also pretended we were brushing toothbrushes – hoping up
and down and backwards and forwards.
We all know you should brush your teeth at least twice a
day, before you go to bed and in the morning; to brush away the nasties in your
mouth.
'You have 20 teeth, 10 at the top and 10 at the bottom.' - Lila
Just a few other bits we managed to squeeze in:
Repated patterns using prining. Ava's 2,5 purple, green pattern came out very well.
Using Numicon to repat number and colour pattern.
Teddy K made his pattern using Duplo blocks.
Charlie W using our bingo dabbers to make his blue, green pattern.
Mrs Bartley was also very busy showing the children how to peel potatoes and later we made mash.
These children have already had a try of our delicious mash, but have come back for seconds. 😃
Chloe G tries a bit of mash. 'Ehh no!... (after 3 seconds) I think I actually quite like it.'
