Reception week beginning 27.02.17

This week linked to World Book Day our theme will be ......

Our Favourite Books!

We will begin the week by reading to the children, "Charlie Cook's Favourite Books. We will discuss with the children some of Charlie's favourite stories and will encourage them to identify story settings, characters and events.

Literacy Focus: -
For their focus literacy activity this week the children will be asked to draw and write about their favourite book. We will be using their finished work to display in our Reading Corner and to share their Favourite Books.

Phonics Focus: -
The children have now been introduced to all of the Phase 2 and 3 letter sounds in the Letters and Sound Programme. We will continue to have a daily early morning phonics session focusing on: -
  • The practise of all GPCs (Grapheme Phoneme Correspondence. Knowing a GPC means being able to match a phoneme to a grapheme and vice versa)
  • The practise of all letter names
  • The practise of blending for reading
  • The practise of segmentation for spelling
  • The reading of all tricky words.
  • Reading and writing captions and sentences.
Please continue to help your child to learn the sounds in their Phonics Book and complete the weekly phonics tasks we will send home.  For help in how to say each sound correctly please visit the phonics website http://mrthorne.com/ which has short videos which you and your child can watch at home.

Tricky Words: -
This week we will begin assessing the children on the Phase 2 and Phase 3 tricky words. We will inform you of how your child has done so you can continue to support their learning at home.

Maths Focus: -
This week through practical tasks we will be introducing the children to the language of subtraction.

This week in Caterpillar Class: -
On World Book Day we enjoyed sharing our favourite books with our friends.

In the Writing Area we made our own versions of our favourite books.

We made book marks: -

We enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day and wore some fantastic outfits linked to our favourite book characters. Can you guess who we all are?

Maths activities: -
We counted people onto a bus and then rolled a dice and took that number of people away and placed them at the bus stop. We then counted the total number of people remaining on the bus.

Independent subtraction work at the maths area: -

During our hall session we took part in activities using a parachute. We listened brilliantly to instructions which were given to us.

Now you see us ......

Now you don't!

This week in Ladybird Class:
Writing our sentences and challenging ourselves in our Early Morning Phonic Work.

Drawing our faviourite book characters and writing labels to go with our character.

Using the animal bus and bus stop to support our understanding of subtraction.

"8 aminals on the bus. 2 take away, at the bus stop."

"Just 2 more to go on the bus stop and that is take away 8."

Tuesday was Pancake day.  We tried some sweet pancakes in the classroom.

"Yum I like these."

Later on we had a go at pancake racing and flipping.  It was lots of fun!

We didn't eat these pancakes, they went in the bin - yuck!

To celebrate World Book Day on the 2nd March- we read lots of books over the whole week.

We had loads of fun sharing our books with our friends and talking about our faviourite character.

"I like Teddy's book,' said Jacob B, 'It has a rocket that moves and a picture of a spaceman too."

In computing we got to draw pictures of our faviourite books or who we dressed up as.
Lovely strippy top Jacob K.

Teddy K drew his picture and has typed his name too.

"I've drawn a space picture, cos' Stormtroopers fly out in space."

In the hall this week, we tested our listening skills to see if we could follow instructions.  We did a great job and had lots of fun at the same time!

Waves of bouncing balls.

And under we go.
