Forest School Bird Watching

This week at Forest School we took part in bird watching activities.
The children used binoculars, identification sheets & books to name & find out about the different birds that visit our Forest School area.

We spotted pigeons, sparrows, blackbirds

and a robin

We had to keep very quiet so that we didn't frighten the birds away. The hide was a good place to spot birds from.

Madison and Tohan kept a log of their time in the hide.

They saw 'nachu' (nature). They waited a while then noted 'not see burs yet' (not seen birds yet). Their patience paid off though, and they were able to note that they could first 'hear' the birds & then 'see 3 burs'. They even had time to draw a sketch of a passing bumble bee.
What fantastic independent writing.

Rosie spotted a pigeon. As there was no pigeon on the sheet she sounded out the word and drew a picture.
Brilliant work Rosie.
